ASL WANTS YOU!!!

Who Should Learn ASL?

ASL History Tid-Bit

Dr. Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet, a hearing minister from Hartford, Connecticut, introduced American Sign Language in 1814.  Gallaudet traveled to Europe to receive education on how to communicate with the deaf.

While in Europe, Gallaudet met Laurent Clerc, an instructor and once student for the deaf.  Clerc accompanied Gallaudet back to America where they erected the first school for the deaf in 1817 in Hartford, Connecticut.
